class etiquette

Similar to a traditional school, Thurmond Music classes run more efficiently, and are more enjoyable when everyone shows respect for others, and follows the principles/ etiquette. “A positive attitude is key to success in a Thurmond Music class”. The following expectations of principle/ etiquette will ensure a positive experience:

Timely Arrivals

Arriving to class on time, or early allows for appropriate warm-up, thus preventing, minimizing injuries. Be sure to get a nod/ approval from the instructor to join class; and, to minimize distraction, please feel free to find and occupy available space in the back of the class. For safety reasons, students arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be permitted to participate in class.

Dress Code

As a representation of respect to the Thurmond Music environment, appropriate apparel is essential, and must be chosen and worn in good taste. Appropriate attire for Thurmond Music is apparel that does not show body parts, has adequate foot protection, such as character or jazz shoes.

Food & Other Items

We respectfully request that you refrain from chewing gum, eating, and drinking anything other than water in the studio. In fact, we encourage you to bring water to hydrate before, after, and during class (if needed).

Personal Space & Care

In order to avoid collisions, participants must be aware of their space and the space of the peers around them during class activity. Participants are encouraged to maintain ample space between them. In the event that a collision does occur, an apology is customary, courteous, and respectful. It is often necessary and more beneficial to the student, for the instructor to correct a student in class via physical contact to the body. However it is important for a student to inform the instructor if he/she is not comfortable with the form of correction/instruction.

For safety reasons, it is important for students to notify the instructor of any physical limitations or injuries, whether occurring before class or during class.

Distracting Conversations

Our desire is to provide a class environment that is filled with fun and education; therefore, it is important and courteous to restrict conversations to a minimum, unless otherwise directed by the instructor. Should questions arise for the instructor, participants are encouraged to speak freely, and confidently. Asking brief questions during class is encouraged for the success of learning; however, more detailed questions that take longer to answer can be addressed after class. Parent/Guardians are encouraged to wait until after class to speak with the instructor.
